OBJECTIVES

To empower, to help, to educate and to let women lead

TO AWAKEN WOMEN
to an awareness of their potential and strengths as a political, economic, socio-cultural and moral force.

TO HELP WOMEN
develop their strengths and apply them effectively towards building a nation within the framework of love, peace, and democracy based on truth.

TO TRAIN WOMEN LEADERS
in good governance, civic duties, and leadership to enable them to take important and responsible roles in their respective communities. In this regard, AWARE will take a long- term view on women empowerment in the political arena. Its support for qualified women leaders to run for public office will be an ongoing concern.

TO ENTER INTO PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS
to be able to work effectively with government agencies; non-government organizations; foundations and other partners to achieve AWARE’s goals.

TO WORK IN EDUCATION
to include modules in educating and training women in preparation for leadership in society.

TO ENSURE THAT THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE PHILIPPINES IS PRESERVED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
Cultural heritage consists not just of monuments and sites but oral traditions, literature, performing and visual arts, rituals and festivals, arts and crafts and indigenous peoples’ practices, among others.

TO ADVOCATE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE IN SOCIETY
to help the Philippines reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs 2015-2030). Among the SDGs that AWARE will focus on are Quality Education, Gender Equality, Climate Action, Peace and Justice and Building Strong Institutions.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

To fulfill its objective of identifying and supporting qualified women leaders to run for public office, AWARE has crafted the following criteria/guiding principles for the women it will support:

  • Of sound moral character, with no history of corruption or of being beholden to interest groups or corrupt politicians.

  • Must be consistent in their adherence to democracy and the rule of law

  • Must be committed to fully implement the mandate of social justice and human rights as the “Heart” of the Philippine Constitution; who have the poor as the center of development by equitably diffusing wealth and political power for the common good.

  • Must have proven competence, whether in government, in the private sector, or in civil society, with a track record on addressing problems.
